US Army ERP system On-Cloud migration

In recent news, Accenture is a big topic of discussion after its latest win with the US army. Their new model for a more central ERP system will be built by Accenture to migrate all various army systems into a single-cloud based platform that utilizes SAP technology. This feels like a long overdue play for the military. While these individual systems work well within the short term, the operational side of the systems begin to lag at enterprise levels. The US army is no different. Tech is updating at a rapid pace with constant large scale operational activities underway. Not to mention, active duty army members are in the hundreds of thousands in the current times. Running a branch so vast and complex is due for a centralized system to oversee all operations. Less repetitive data entry, more visibility between departments, and a faster and more optimized core operational system. This will be a difficult conversion, to say the least. But, this will be a worthwhile one. In all honesty, I'm a bit puzzled how migration between systems works and how to bring it all on cloud. i think this could be a long, and hefty project. Likely, this will go way over budget and over schedule as well. Lots of important data transfers are at risk of being breached in a failure to successfully migrate, However, the utilization of SAP means they are taking this serious. This comes with its risks however. Centralizing all operations onto a core systems means if one things goes wrong, the whole system could be at jeopardy. Downtime could cause all operational issues to halt, instead of one individual system, like finances taking a temporary hit. Regardless, I think this is a great strategic move. Operational efficiency has the potential to increase significantly in this move, and leaving Accenture with a big contract win.
